AS FEATURED IN, "THIS OLD HOUSE"
Dean Maiorano is proud to have had his work featured in the March/April 1997 edition of THIS OLD HOUSE® Magazine. The following text and photos are from that article.
Wet Basement Headaches Can Be Cured, With A Little Common Sense And Willingness To Dig Deep.

INSIDE THE JOB
During a rainstorm at their new house in Brewster, New York, David Angley and his family found their downstairs rec room filling with water. "There was nothing we could do but stack up the furniture, roll up the carpets and start pumping it out," he says.
An inspection revealed the problem: The house's exterior footing drains had been damaged during construction. The could be replaced, but a cheaper solution lay indoors: running a drainpipe along the basement wall. For $4,000, a crew jack hammered a trench into the basement floor, top left, then dug it out so four-inch corrugated piping with slits on all sides would lie below the concrete slab, middle. Interior systems require a gravity feed or a sump pump, which is installed in a shallow well, bottom left. Once the pipe is placed in the trench and covered with gravel, below, a plastic vapor barrier, bottom right, is laid on tip and then patched with cement. "We've had lots of rain since," Angley says, "but it's been dry as a bone."
AFTER A HURRICANE:
Just thought you would like to know that even with 2.5 ft. of water in the front yard after that massive flood two weeks ago, we didn't get a lick of water in the basement. We were one of the few families not to have water on our street. The water level was so sever that they tried to evacuate us. Thought you would appreciate the photo."

FRENCH DRAIN INSTALLATION:
Dean, the owner of Dirty Deeds, is a true professional. From a by-gone era, he is a man who cares about his customers problems and takes pride in solving them to everyone’s satisfaction.
Dirty Deeds was at the low end of the estimates we received for installing a French drain in our basement. Dean was “hands-on” during the entire process, working along with his crew to both install the system and clean-up afterwards. He personally returned at least twice to check that everything was working properly.
Without hesitation I can recommend that anyone looking to “fix” their water leakage and wet basement problems, call Dirty Deeds as the first step towards a successful resolution of their problems.

MOLD AND DECAY REMOVAL:
I have had an ongoing problem in my basement with mold and decay and Mr. Maiorano evaluated and fixed the problem.
For years and years I knew that my basement was damp. No sitting water, but mold and excess humidity that a dehumidifier was not sufficient to handle. We repainted the walls with special paint to no avail. The mold and odor reappeared.
Finally, we decided that we needed another plan. We contacted Mr. Maiorano based on a referral from a friend. He came to the house and gave us an estimate. As it turned out the job was considerably bigger and more involved than either of us had thought, but Mr. Maiorano put in the extra time and effort to complete the job at the price we agreed. He dug trenches, put in pipes, put in gravel, cemented open areas and then cleaned up after himself and his workers.
I had previously thought I could manage with HANDYMEN, but the work was beyond their area of expertise. Dirty Deeds’ only business, certainly what they are experts in, is basement waterproofing.

Coming from an older home with water problems, I was concerned when I was having my new home constructed (near a pond). I mentioned to the contractor that I wanted the basement waterproofed. My husband and I were not certain that the black product they painted around the foundation would be enough. It was then that we called Mr. Maiorano. He applied a rubberized membrane to the foundation, installed underground curtain drains, as well as a gravitized inside french drain system. I am happy to say that we never had a problem. I sold the home a few years back and was confident that I was selling a dry, sound home.
